Dr. Stephen R. Covey was asked to talk about one of his personal heroes, and brought up Mahatma Gandhi’s personal mission statement:
“Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day:
Gandhi also created the alternative of non-violent action. He did not run away, and he did not fight, as most people do. Instead, Gandhi worked within himself until he won the private victory and learned the philosophy of his life. Non-violent action; a third alternative.

“Let the first act of every morning be to make the following resolve for the day:
- I shall not fear anyone on Earth.
- I shall fear only God.
- I shall not bear ill will toward anyone.
- I shall not submit to injustice from anyone.
- I shall conquer untruth by truth. And in resisting untruth, I shall put up with all suffering.”

Help

Loved this post, Mark. Thanks. Since self always has to be the starting point, this is the kind of personal resolution that could seriously change the world.
those are great words to remember and live by. thanks
I like them all, but I personally would change the second one. For me, it would read, “I shall seek refuge in God.” And I would probably make the don'ts into dos.
I shall love all creatures of the earth.
I shall find refuge in Godess. (For today)
I shall strive to think positive thoughts about myself and others.
I shall be equitable to myself and others
I shall conquor untruth with truth and love.
But who am i to correct Ghandi?
I love the intention here.
Michele,
You raised the vibration of those words for me. Thanks for your positive vision.
I shall be filled up with light
I shall love all
I shall be in service to the universe
I shall listen, understand and continue listening
I shall always act with kindness and compassion
I shall be all-ways open to the new and the possible
I shall co-create, collaborate and cooperate.
I shall live in joy.
Blessings to all ~
You are a bodhisattva, my friend :)
